TYPE SPECIMEN
MONTE STELLA
A type specimen is a document that explores what a typeface looks like in its most essential components alongside applications of said typeface in large and small body text. In this type specimen I aim to not only highlight the unique typographical components of Dalton Maag’s Monte Stella but also to use type as way to present an aspect of Italian philosophical history. Through the ideological contextualization of vernacular hand lettering we can explore these typefaces not just through their physical forms but elevate them into tools that aid in conversations about history, economic class, and equality.
